Why I Need Backflow Certification Or Testing?

Irrigation backflow preventers allow water to travel in only one direction- out towards your landscaping, and never in towards your drinking water.

Most cities and municipalities require the backflow to be tested by a certified contractor on a regular basis. Typically you will receive a letter in the mail regarding the requirement and when it’s due.

Doctor sprinkler is an approved contractor for all local cities and municipalities. We will test your backflow and send the results to the city. In the event your backflow needs to be repaired or replaced we can do that as well.

The point of your backflow system is to keep the water in your irrigation system from entering your potable water system. The water used in your sprinklers often contains traces of pesticides, fertilizers, and other contaminants. Simply put, it isn't safe for human consumption. When your backflow preventer is working properly, it only allows the water in your irrigation system to travel in one direction - out towards your landscaping, and never in towards your drinking water. However, like any mechanism, backflow systems require maintenance to ensure they're working smoothly. This is especially important in areas that get dry, hot summers, where homeowners will rely on irrigation systems to keep their lawns healthy. Most towns and municipalities require periodic testing to keep drinking water safe. For example: Cary, North Carolina requires that a backflow prevention assembly receive annual testing. Raleigh, North Carolina requires that irrigation systems be tested every three years by a city-approved contractor With guidance from the licensed professionals at Doctor Sprinkler, your property can be healthy, beautiful, and safe for all.

FAQ'S

An irrigation backflow refers to the unwanted flow of water from a potentially polluted or contaminated source back into the clean water supply system. It occurs when the water pressure in the irrigation system drops, causing the reverse flow of water. This can lead to contamination of potable water, posing health risks to humans and animals.

There are several benefits to having an irrigation backflow system installed:

- Protection of potable water: An irrigation backflow system helps prevent the contamination of the clean water supply by ensuring that water flows in one direction - from the water supply to the irrigation system and not the other way around.

- Compliance with regulations: Many municipalities require the installation of backflow prevention devices to safeguard public health and comply with plumbing codes and regulations.

- Peace of mind: Knowing that your irrigation system is equipped with a backflow prevention device provides peace of mind, as it significantly reduces the risk of water contamination and potential health hazards.

To maintain the effectiveness and reliability of your backflow prevention system, it is recommended to have regular inspections and tests performed. The frequency of inspections may vary depending on local regulations and the type of backflow prevention device installed.

As a general guideline, it is advisable to inspect and test your backflow system at least once a year. However, some regions or specific circumstances may require more frequent inspections, such as twice a year or on a quarterly basis.

When it comes to inspecting and repairing your irrigation backflow system, it is crucial to hire professionals who are experienced and certified in backflow prevention. You can contact licensed plumbers or irrigation service providers who specialize in backflow prevention to ensure that your system is properly maintained and repaired if needed.

These professionals have the expertise to identify any potential issues, perform necessary tests, make repairs, and ensure that your backflow prevention system complies with local regulations.
